It may be in the Highlands, but the Cowal Highland Gathering is a lot closer than you might think – you can get to Dunoon from Glasgow in an hour and half and it’s well served by public transport. By ferry Trains leave Glasgow Central for Gourock at 5 and 25 minutes past the hour and take you directly to the Gourock ferry terminal. From here you can catch the passenger-only ferry, operated by Argyll Ferries, to Dunoon. The crossing takes about 20 minutes. Western Ferries, which operates from just outside Gourock, takes cars and passengers. Both companies will be running an enhanced service during the Cowal Highland Gathering. By road The drive to Dunoon from Glasgow via the A82, is a picturesque route that will take you past Loch Lomond, through Arrochar, over the the Rest and Be Thankful and along Loch Fyne to the village of Strachur. From here, follow the banks of Loch Eck to Dunoon. |
