Cowal Highland Gathering Introduce Hill Race

Entry to the first Cowal Highland Gathering Hill Run opened yesterday (Thursday 1st August) with an online form available on this website.

The race which is sponsored by Argyll Financial Services of Ferry Brae, Dunoon, will take place on Saturday 31st August at 1.40pm and will certainly be challenging. With a strict one hour time limit for completing the course, the race will begin in Argyll Street. The athletes will run up John Street before climbing the Camel’s Hump, and will then return along the main road before finishing in the stadium. Prizes will be presented to the winning athletes and everyone taking part will recieve a medal.

And to get the party started early, local ceilidh band Canned Haggis will be performing in the Argyll Gardens bandstand from around 11.30am. They will be joined by Scottish country dancers before a perfromance by a pipe band (details to be confirmed) who will then pipe the runners to the start line at around 1.30pm.

Cowal Highland Gathering chair Ronnie Cairns said: ’We expect this to be a very popular event so would encourage people to get their entry forms completed as soon as possible.’

’We are delighted that Argyll Financial Services are sponsoring the event and believe the hill run is another way we can involve the whole of Dunoon in the Cowal Highland Gathering.’

’it promises to be a very competitive race and we are looking forward to this event becoming an annual fixture in the Cowal Highland gathering weekend.’

Entry costs £5.00 for members of Scottishathletics and £7.00 for non members. Follow the link below to the entry form...... and happy running.
