Hair salon brushes off competition to win window-dressing contest

The competition among Dunoon’s traders to create the most visually striking Cowal Highland Gathering (CHG) window display has been won by a town centre hair salon.

The Beauty Box on Argyll Street picked up the £250 first prize as well as its very own silverware – the Cowal Gathering Trophy.

The two runners-up were Argyll Vintners/The Sewing Bee and Electricom.

The challenge set by CHG organisers had been for each participating trader to display one of the Gathering’s many trophies in as eye-catching a way as possible.

Some 30 shops around Dunoon took part in the competition, which was judged by a three-strong panel

CHG chair Ronnie Cairns said: “The support which local traders have shown for the Gathering in general - and this window competition in particular – has been fantastic.

“Many of them put in a tremendous effort to ensure their displays promoted the Gathering as well as they possibly could. I’d like to thank all those who took part for really getting in the festival spirit and showing Dunoon off in its best light.

“I know the panel of judges found it extremely hard to pick a winner, but The Beauty Box is a very worthy champion and I congratulate it on its efforts. I’d also like to express the Gathering’s gratitude to the PA23 BIDS team which sponsored the competition.

“Now we can concentrate our focus on the Gathering itself. This is the biggest weekend by far in the Argyll and Bute calendar, and we’re all looking forward to getting the show on the road.”

Thanks to the Dunoon Observer for the photo of the winners, Sanda Kent and Laura Docherty of The Beauty Box.
