2015 COWAL HIGHLAND GATHERING ANNOUNCES RADIO CLYDE CASH FOR KIDS AS CHARITY PARTNER

Cowal Highland Gathering is delighted to announce that its charity partner for this year’s event is Radio Clyde Cash for Kids.

The charity, which was founded in 1980, provides vital financial support to small charities and communities groups across the west of Scotland that provide a wide range of support to vulnerable and disabled children and their families, including many who are living in poverty.

As Cowal Highland Gathering’s charity partner, Radio Clyde Cash for Kids will benefit from a percentage of adult ticket sales from Saturday’s event as well as from fundraising activities happening throughout the weekend. The traditional parade along Dunoon’s Argyll Street will see the charity’s Courage the Cat making a special appearance.

In addition, the charity will be hosting a stage in the Family Zone which will feature a performance by 12 year old singer Megan Adams, who reached the Top 20 with her single Travellin’ Soldier, andAbbatones, an Abba tribute act

A Radio Clyde Cash for Kids gazebo will also be giving away balloons and wristbands. A further exciting addition to the event will be a truck pull with the truck being provided by Bullet Express, one of Radio Clyde Cash for Kids’ corporate supporters. Up to four teams, with a designated strongman, will take part in the challenge to find out who can pull a truck across a in the quickest time whilst raising money through sponsorship from their supplier.

Cowal Highland Gathering Chair Ronnie Cairns said: “Radio Clyde Cash for Kids is a well-known children’s charity supporting essential work with some of the most vulnerable children in communities across the west of Scotland and we are delighted to help support their work. Last year they made over 31,500 vital financial awards to projects working with over 100,000 children, many living in poverty. On top of the portion of adult ticket sales they will receive we are sure that the thousands of people attending the Gathering will make donations too.”

Lord McConnell, chairman of Radio Clyde Cash for Kids said: “Cowal Highland Gathering has an international reputation attracting thousands of visitors and we are excited and honoured to be their charity partner this year.

“Every pound donated to Radio Clyde Cash for Kids is spent directly on vulnerable children in the West of Scotland. We make a huge difference at Christmas for thousands of vulnerable children and we also help at other difficult times throughout the year. Sadly, the need for the charity’s work continues to grow. For example, Cash for Kids received a 12 per cent increase in the number of requests for help to feed children and help tackle child food poverty last year.

“This partnership between the Cowal Highland Gathering and Clyde Cash for Kids will add to our opportunities to help all of those children and I am confident that this partnership will be a big success.” Since 1980, Radio Clyde Cash for Kids has raised over £27.4 million and helped more than 1.9 million of the West of Scotland’s most deprived children. Cash for Kids also provides a wide range of grants throughout the year to:

• provide financial support towards the cost of staff who deliver the vital projects • fund equipment or events where individual children can benefit from direct participation

• fund day trips, team building sessions and critical family interaction time

• fund a group trip or an outing or a Christmas party for children who would otherwise never have this opportunity

• fund individual Christmas presents, Christmas dinner or winter clothing and shoes All costs for administering and running the charity are paid by The Hunter Foundation, allowing Cash for Kids to distribute 100% of donations received to vulnerable children in the west of Scotland either through community grants or family grants.

This year’s Cowal Highland Gathering in association with charity partner Cash for Kids, with main sponsorship from the Scottish Salmon Company and support from EventScotland runs from Thursday 27 to Saturday 29 August.
