Scotland’s premier family-friendly Highland Games is to feature its spectacular send off once again. Western Ferries today confirmed that part of their sponsorship support would again cover Cowal Highland Gathering’s (CHG) famous closing fireworks display.

The Dunoon-based company has sponsored the fireworks for many years, and news that it would fund the display again in 2016 was welcomed by the event’s organisers.

CHG chair Ronnie Cairns said: “Western Ferries is one of the area’s highest profile and most highly thought of businesses, and a vote of confidence on this scale from an organisation like that is great news for us.

“We’re very grateful for Western Ferries’ continuing support, which will undoubtedly have positive knock on effects for the Gathering.

“That support goes well beyond sponsoring the closing fireworks display. During the event, Western Ferries also lays on additional sailings between Dunoon and Gourock which enables competitors, spectators, exhibitors and entertainers to go to and from the Gathering with minimal delay.

“Confirmation of this continuing sponsorship is just the sort of news we were looking for to kick start the countdown to this year’s event.”

Western Ferries Managing Director Gordon Ross said: “We are delighted to be working again with the Cowal Highland Gathering.

“This is a fantastic weekend in the calendar which highlights the Highland culture of the local area as well as promoting Dunoon and Cowal as year round tourist destination.

“The Western Ferries’ fireworks display is an exciting finale to the three days of competition and is enjoyed by the locals, the many visitors and the competitors.”

This year’s Cowal Highland Gathering runs from Thursday 25 – Saturday 27 August.
