Looking for the perfect Christmas gift for ceilidh music lovers? Look no further. Tickets for traditional music’s most exciting event were launched today, just in time to prove Christmas 2016’s must-have gift.
In the space of just two years, Cowal Highland Gathering’s (CHG) ‘Gig at the Gathering’ has cemented its place as one of the top ceilidh music events in the calendar.
If last year is anything to go by, CHG fans will snap up tickets over the next couple of weeks to ensure their place – and those of their friends and family – is secured at the four-hour Friday night extravaganza.
Once again, CHG organisers have signed up some of the most exciting bands on the traditional music circuit to ensure the crowd is rocking from the first note to the last.
The headline act at next year’s event is Tide Lines – a four piece band whose first single, ‘Far Side of the World’, entered the UK download charts ahead of popular tracks by world famous artists such as Coldplay and Beyonce.
The band, which is heavily influenced by the traditional music of the West Highlands and Islands and whose eclectic sound is driven by acoustic and electric guitars, consists of Robert Robertson from Lochaber, Ross Wilson from Mull, Alasdair Turner from Alness and Fergus Munro from Glasgow.
Supporting Tide Lines will be the ever-popular young Argyll band Heron Valley, who played at 11 festivals this year and have become firm Cowal Gathering favourites with their energetic brand of west coast music featuring fiddle, accordion, pipes, whistles, guitar, piano, vocals, bass and drums.
Also playing will be Trongate Rum Riots, a Glasgow nine-piece band who play their own brand of ‘turbo sea shanties’.
As usual, the Gig won’t simply boast top ceilidh music. It will also feature whisky and gin tasting and street food will be available throughout the evening.
Cowal Highland Gathering chair Ronnie Cairns said: “The feedback we’ve received from the first two Gigs has been incredibly positive. Everyone lucky enough to have a ticket has had a fantastic night, so we’ve been keen to finalise arrangements for next year as soon as possible in order that people can get it in their diaries again.
“I’m delighted we’re once again able to launch the tickets in time for Christmas. This has been a sell-out success on both occasions it’s been held - and we know many people who were there this year have vowed to be back again next August - so we’re anticipating a rush for tickets in the run-up to Christmas.
“It’s going to be a great night out whether you’re a first-timer or an old hand, so I’d recommend that people buy their tickets now so as to avoid disappointment nearer the time.”
Tickets for the Gig - which will take place on Friday, August 25 2017 in the Gathering’s Ceilidh Tent – are £15. The gates will open at 6.30pm with the first band due to kick off half an hour later. The event will finish at 11pm.
Next year’s Cowal Highland Gathering runs from Thursday 24 to Saturday 26th August. For more information about the event or to buy tickets, please visit the Gathering’s website at www.cowalgathering.com or contact the event office by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org or phoning 01369 703206.
