Highland Dancing

On Saturday, young dancers get the chance to compete in the pre-premier events which are confined to dancers within the Argyll & Bute District. This competition is held on the West Platform which is on the opposite of the Stadium from the Grandstand. There is some free seating in this area however there is also a grassy area where spectators can enjoy young dancers some of whom are performing at Cowal for the very first time.
At the Main Platform, Dancers aged between 7 and under 13 and 13 and under 16 compete in another confined event – Argyll Championship (County) sponsored by
Cowal Building and Plumbing Services. This gives local dancers the chance to compete on the same platform as the World Champions whose final is held immediately after.
Pipe Bands
If you are keen on Pipe Bands, then the East Stand affords a great view of the Pipe Band Championships, particularly from 3.00 p.m. on, the Grade 1 Pipe Bands. Saturday East Stand tickets may only be booked by calling us on (+44) 1369 703206, these are not available on-line. Heavy Events and Wrestling
Meanwhile, elsewhere on the field Heavy Athletics( sponsored by Corona) are competing for the Sutherland Trophy, the Wrestlers are vying for the Scottish Wrestling Championship (sponsored by McGill’s Coaches) and there are some other more light hearted events in the West Arena, such as cheer leaders..
Children’s Entertainment Tent
This year we have also introduced a Children’s Entertainment Tent where there will be face painting, balloon modelling, puppet shows and a clown. Something for the little ones to enjoy.

These are some of the events taking place however the highlight of Saturday is the March Past when approx. 3,000 pipes and drums assemble and play en masse. The scale of this is unique to Cowal and is not to be missed.
