Park and Ride
Due to the size and nature of the event, the main street of Dunoon is pedestrianised throughout Saturday and there is a new traffic management system in place. There are therefore severe restrictions on parking within the town centre. Shuttle buses will be running throughout the day on a round route encompassing both ferry terminals. Public transport is therefore the best method of travel.
There are one or two car parks available within the town centre. These are located at the Coal Pier opposite the Argyll Hotel on the sea front and at Hanover Street (off Victorial Road). There are no parking restrictions on the main promenade between Kirn and Dunoon (about a one mile stretch) and the event is a short walk up one of the several streets leading up from the sea front (or by shuttle buses). Parking on the sea front gives the added bonus of having a prime viewing area for the spectacular Fireworks Display which takes place in this area at the end of the evening!
Dunoon Grammar School have confirmed that members of the public visiting the Gathering on the Friday and Saturday will be able to use their car park, which is on Ardenslate Road and only a short walk to the stadium. There will be a small charge for the use of the car park.
For those wishing to park further outside the town e.g. Sandbank area which is around 2 miles from the event; transport would be via service buses (see
www.westcoastmotors.co.uk
for timetables) or by several taxi companies operating within the town (it may be wise to source taxi numbers prior to arriving in town).
THURSDAY AND FRIDAY
If visiting the event on Thursday and/or Friday, there is ample parking at the event - access through the main concourse and the car park is on the right. As this car park area is not managed by the Gathering there will be charge for parking in this area throughout the day
DISABLED PARKING
Disabled parking is available each day at the main entrance to Dunoon Stadium. Please note that it is limited and available on a first come, first served basis. As the stadium is a natural amphitheatre it is worth noting that there is not easy access to all areas of the event in a wheelchair.
