We are once again looking forward to welcoming some of the best solo pipers from across the world to compete at Cowal.

The standard is always extremely high as the pipers battle it our for some of the oldest and most prestigous trophies around.


This year the solo piping competitions will take place on the 25th August 2017.

There will be senior and juvenile competitions taking place throughout the day. All Competitions will take place in the Black Park this year with the Grade A and B competitions expected to start at 10am. The Juvenile competitions will be held late morning and the Grade C competition will start around 2pm. (exact timings will be confirmed in after the draw has been completed.)


SENIOR EVENTS - A and B Grade

Event A - Grade A Piobaireachd
Event B - Grade B Piobaireachd
Event C - Grade A March
Event D - Grade B March
Event E - Grade A Strathspey and Reel
Event F - Grade B Strathspey and Reel


All the above events will take place in the Black Park and are expected to start at 10am.

C Grade Competition
Event P - Grade C Piobaireachd
Event Q - Grade C March
Event R - Grade C Strathspey and Reel

Will be on the lower field and will start at approximately 2pm.

Event G - The Burgh Cup - Local March Strathspey and Reel
The Burgh Cup competition is open to those born in the Argyll and Bute area, or who have been resident there for six months prior to the competition date and are 16 years or over.

JUVENILE EVENTS


Event I - Open Juvenile Piobaireachd aged 17 and under

Event K - Open Juvenile March, Strathspey and reel aged 17 and under.

The Juvenile events above are expected to begin around 11am on the lower field. Exact timings will be confirmed after the closing date for entries.

Event L - Local Juvenile March age 15 and under from Argyll and Bute
Event M - Local Juvenile Strathspey and Reel aged 15 and under from Argyll and Bute

Events L and M will take place in the lower field and are expected to start around mid morning.

Event N - Novice Juvenile Piping Competition
For Novice Juvenile graded pipers. Please note that the geographical restrictions have been removed from this event and entries are now open to all novice juvenile pipers.
Novice Juvenile pipers who have competed in any competition as a juvenile piper are not eligible to enter this competition.

Please note that the number of competitors in each competition will be limited to 20 and places will be allocated strictly on a "first come first served" basis.

This year the solo piping competition at the Cowal Gathering will take place on Friday 25th August. As in recent years there will be senior competitions at Grade A, B and C level as well as juvenile competitions.

Please note that the number of competitors in all competitions will be limited to a maximum of 20 this year. Places will be awarded on a first come, first served basis. i.e. The first 20 to enter each competition will compete on the day.

Competitors in the Senior grade are required to submit their chosen tunes when completing the entry form. The number of tunes required depends on the grade being entered;

Grade A - are required to submit 5 Piobaireachds, 5 Marches and 5 Strathspey and Reels
Grade B - are required to submit 4 piobaireachds, 4 Marches and 4 Strathspey and Reels
Grade C - are required to submit 3 Piobaireachds, 3 Marches and 3 Strathspey and Reels

The senior competitions will take place on the lower field and will begin at 10am. Registration for seniors will also be on the lower field. The juvenile competitions will take place on the lower field, with the open events beginning at approx. 11am (exact time to be confirmed). Registration for juveniles will also be on the lower field.

Competitors entering the local events must have been born in the Argyll and Bute area or have resided there for at least 6 months prior to the date of competition.

Order of play will be decided by a random draw performed after the closing date, which is the 1st of July. The order of play will be issued to each competitor along with their competitor passes well before the competition date. It is the responsibility of the piper to present themselves at the playing platform at the correct time and failure to do so could result in their elimination.

Competitor numbers will be recieved upon registration and must be worn when competing. We would appreciate it if all trophy winners were in their uniform for the presentations.
